Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed that the corruption case involving Public Service Media (PSM) has been under investigation since July.

The commission on Sunday revealed that they have been investigating the matter related to funds withdrawn for purchasing dollars and revenue received by PSM.

ACC added that after completing the "preliminary investigation" of the case, they have been investigating further as there are additional matters that need to be probed.

In addition to this, ACC confirmed that at the time the special audit of PSM related to the case was ongoing, the commission had consulted with the Auditor General's Office and collaborated in a manner that preserved the integrity of the evidence linked to the case.

The anti-corruption watchdog stated that the Maldives Police Service (MPS) had also forwarded the case to them, during September.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, an official at ACC confirmed that the case is being probed since July after it was submitted to the commission by PSM.

The official stated that as it is an ongoing investigation, further details could not be disclosed at the time.

However, updates are to be shared as findings unfold.

According to the audit report filed by PSM, MVR nine million is missing from the funds withdrawn for purchasing U. S. dollars.

The audit report goes on to reveal that money was deposited into the accounts of PSM's former Finance Director Ahmed Haneef and one of his children as part of the dollar purchase transactions.

Based on the details provided by the audit report, MVR 4,583,701 was missing from the company’s bank account, supposedly for the purpose of “purchasing USD”.

In addition to this, the report shows that MVR 4,260,295 received as revenue and through other means by PSM from 2017 to 2024, was also missing. It goes on to reveal that MVR 190,087 was missing from the safe.
