The two individuals who were arrested under accusations of stealing, broke into a house and threatened its inhabitants with at knifepoint.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that arrested under suspicions of stealing electronic items, were Ismail Vishal, native to capital Malé City and Hussain Shaaif, native to Dharavandhoo island of Baa atoll.

The police institution revealed that the two men were arrested at around 04:05pm on Wednesday.

Two men unlawfully entered a residence in the Maafannu district of Malé City by climbing through a bathroom window. Once inside, they wielded knives at two sleeping residents, threatening to kill them if they made any attempt to move.

The suspects proceeded to steal the victims' mobile phones, a laptop, and other electronic items. The incident, which occurred late at night, was reported to the police in the early hours of Thursday.

After committing the robbery, the suspects locked themselves in the bathroom and subsequently escaped through the same window they had used to enter.

The stolen laptop and mobile devices have seen been recovered.

Officers also found other items they are suspected to have stolen, in their possession.

Further investigations are currently underway.
