Western Union heist suspects face terror charges
The case was forwarded to the court on 21st February, and the first hearing is to be held at 2:00 on Tuesday

The two suspects in the 2016 heist on Western Union’s local branch have been charged with terrorism.

The prosecution has charged two men – Mohamed Fairooz from Magoodhoo of Faafu atoll and Ali Shaneez from Kondé of Gaafu Alifu atoll.

The case was forwarded to the court on 21st February, and the first hearing is to be held at 2:00 on Tuesday.

On October 2nd, a group masked men armed with knives had broken into and robbed the Western Union outlet, after having tied up security personnel and other employees.

The men entered the outlet shortly after midnight.

The police have reportedly recovered USD 1.2 million and 321,603 – though they are unsure exactly what the amount stolen was.
