President Abdulla Yameen has sent greetings to President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khagan of Pakistan, as they mark the country's 70th Independence Day.

While the President sent two separate messages, he conveyed greetings from the government and people of Maldives to 'the brotherly people of Pakistan'.

He also expressed hope to further strengthen the 'warm and fraternal relations' that exist between both countries.

Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the guest of honour during Maldives' 52nd Independence Day celebrations on the 26th of July.

Sharif was ousted from power on July 28th by Pakistan's Supreme Court, shortly after his return from Maldives. He was removed after months of hearings on corruption against him and his family.
