Maldives Customs Service has cracked down on a drug smuggling attempt.

The case was reported on 20 August 2024, when customs officers were inspecting four packages shipped via Maldives Post.

Additional analysis was carried out after suspicions arose that the packages contained narcotics.

During the initial stages of analysis, the suspected drugs found in the packages were found to be positive for synthetic cathinone.

Including the packing, the drugs weighed a total of 0.666 kilograms.

The confiscated narcotics carry a street value of MVR one million, according to customs.

For further investigations, the confiscated drugs have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
