Gov’t sacks long-term employees serving political posts
This was done to “cut costs”

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has sacked long-serving employees at top positions of the company.
MMPRC announced its decision to dismiss Ibrahim Asim, who had been serving as a director at the company for an extensive period, following a board meeting held on Monday.
Asim also served in the Tourism Promotion Board, established to promote the tourism industry of the island nation.
Further, Mohamed Bassam Adam was also sacked as the company’s Deputy Managing Director (DMD), following Monday’s board meeting.
Some media outlets have reported that the two senior employees were dismissed as part of “cost cutting” efforts.
This comes at a time the People’s Majlis dismissed an emergency motion submitted by former ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), seeking an end to the dismissal of people in ordinary positions in the process of appointing people to top positions.
The motion by the now opposition MDP was rejected during Tuesday’s parliament sitting.
