The remand period has been set for two individuals arrested in the capital Malé City in connection with a case of suspected drug possession, use, and trafficking.

On Sunday, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that two individuals were arrested on July 5 in an operation conducted jointly by Drug Enforcement Department (DED) and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.

They are Ibrahim Shareef, 41 and Hamza Shareef, 44.

The police institution reveal that during the operation, carried out as part of special efforts to prevent drug sales and use and to combat drugs, substances believed to be narcotics were confiscated upon arresting and searching the suspects.

The provisional weight of these substances is 90.54 grams.

In addition to this, the police institution has revealed that when Ibrahim Shareef and Hamza Shareef were brought to court to determine their remand status in connection with the case, both individuals were ordered to be detained for 15 days.

Further investigations are currently underway at the Drug Enforcement Department in connection with the case.
