A 29-year-old Maldivian man was arrested

An arrest has been made in connection with drug operations conducted in two islands of Noonu atoll.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the drug operations were conducted in Manadhoo island and Velidhoo island.

Both operations stemmed from intel reports received on drug smuggling attempts.

The drug operation in Manadhoo island was conducted on June 10 and saw officers stationed in Miladhoo island and police intelligence officers raiding a dinghy that docked in Manadhoo. They confiscated an empty film cannister filled with suspected narcotics.

A 29-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection with the case.

The operation in Velidhoo island was carried out on June 7.

During the operation officers raided a few public spaces on the island and confiscated 433 rubber packets, three small packets and an empty film cannister filled with suspected narcotics.

No arrests have been made in connection with the drugs confiscated in Velidhoo island yet.

However, further investigations are currently underway in connection with both cases.
