Two arrests have been made in a drug operation conducted in Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the drug operation was conducted as part of their efforts to combat drug smuggling and trafficking attempts across the island nation as well as to crackdown on such networks.

According to the police institution, the operation was conducted jointly by the police intelligence unit and the police officers stationed in Villingili island.

The court-ordered operation, which stemmed from an intel report, was conducted on June 10.

Officers that conducted the court-ordered raid found a small packet filled with suspected narcotics, inside a residence of the island.

Arrested in connection with the case were a 33-year-old and a 40-year-old, both Maldivian men.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
