A man has been arrested in a drug operation.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the operation was conducted as part of their efforts to obstruct drug smuggling and trafficking attempts across the country, and to crackdown on such networks.

The operation was a joint effort by the Police Intelligence Unit and the Drug Enforcement Department (DED).

The operation, conducted on May 2, stemmed from an intel report that drugs were being peddled at a residence in the congested capital, Malé City.

Arrested under a court order was a 36-year-old Maldivian man.

As part of the raid in his residence, officers confiscated suspected narcotics, weighing about four kilograms.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for his remand hearing, the man was given 15 days behind bars.

The case is currently being investigated by the DED.
