A man who was arrested over allegations of torching a campaign office, in Kulhudhuffushi City, has been remanded.
The suspect is a 31-year-old Maldivian man.
He is accused of torching a campaign office in the northern city of Kulhudhuffushi, on April 16.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the suspect was arrested at around 02:55pm on April 25.
MPS confirmed that he was brought into police custody under a court order.
Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for his remand hearing, the court gave him 10 days in remand.
MPS in court revealed that he had failed to show up even after he was given a summons notice in connection with the case.
The man was arrested from the airport, while attempting to flee the country.
However, the suspect has refuted these claims, stating that he did not “flee” from his island and that he was catching a plane abroad, for a doctor’s consultation for his child.
The police institution revealed that further investigations are currently underway.
