The council members of Dharanboodhoo island in Faafu atoll have urged the government to implement a coastal protection project in the island.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s councilors and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members as part of his tour of several islands in Faafu atoll which he began on Saturday.
Discussions at the meeting mainly revolved around development needs of the island community.
Dharanboodhoo councilors stressed the need to facilitate housing loans for newly issued land plots.
They also urged the government to complete the construction of the school's multi-purpose hall, carry out road construction, address healthcare needs, upgrade the football stadium as well as to establish a volleyball court and park.
The president was also briefed on concerns linked to existing budget constraints for WDC members.
WDC members went on to seek support to transform the designated WDC workspace into a more efficient and productive environment.
President Muizzu highlighted that developing a youth center, a volleyball court, and a football stadium were among the projects planned for implementation by his administration.
Listening to the concerns raised at the meeting, the president assured them that he would address the concerns raised at the meeting in consultation with relevant authorities, to find an amicable solution for island residents.
The members of his cabinet that accompanied him on the tour provided updates on the ongoing initiatives by the administration aiming to address the issues raised by the councilors.
