Discussions have been held on the key concerns and issues facing the community of Kalaidhoo island in Laamu atoll.

This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s councilors and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members as part of his tour of several islands in Laamu atoll which he began on Thursday morning.

Discussions at the meeting, held at the island’s social center, revolved around the most pressing concerns and issues facing the island community.

Councilors shared concerns regarding the lack of progress of multiple development projects initiated on the island.

They also shared challenges surfacing due to delays in approving the land use plan.

The president was also briefed on issues related to the council's jurisdiction area.

Kalaidhoo council members requested the president to provide a proper solution to these issues.

Further, they also stressed on the lack of progress of the island’s main road development project.

Discussions also revolved around the design modification they desire for the causeway project.

Shedding light on the importance of developing a football ground, councilors urged the government to upgrade the island’s harbor, provide a solution to waste management issues and establish a swimming area as well as a police post.

A delegation of senior government officials accompanies the president of the tour.

The members of his cabinet accompanying him on the tour provided updates on the ongoing initiatives by the administration aiming to address the issues raised by the councilors.

President Muizzu assured the councilors that their recommendations would be considered, and that the government would seek ways to pursue them.
