Vilufushi island of Thaa atoll

A teenager has drowned off an uninhabited island near Vilufushi island of Thaa atoll.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that deceased in the drowning incident was a 17-year-old Maldivian girl.

She drowned at sea, while on a picnic to an uninhabited island near Vilufushi island.

MPS received the report at around 12:45pm on Wednesday.

She was rushed to Vilufushi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Further investigations are currently underway.
