A resort in Vaavu atoll

A tourist has drowned off a resort in Vaavu atoll.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the tourist died after venturing into the water for a swim.

The deceased has been identified as a 63-year-old woman, hailing from Belarus.

The police institution received reports of the tourist drowning, at around 11:29am on Monday.

MPS cited doctors at the Felidhoo Hospital having confirmed that she was already dead when brought in.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
