The Maldives Immigration department has temporarily halted its e-passport services.

Maldives Immigration revealed that the IMUGA portal had experienced some technical issues since March 29.

Due to the technical issues, there were difficulties for users in accessing the website, according to the immigration department.

Officers of the department temporarily assisted foreign travelers entering and leaving the country, in filing out the traveler declaration form.

The issue with IMUGA portal was resolved and immigration services were back online by early March 31.

The website shows that e-passport services cannot be selected. Although online applications for a 32-page ordinary passport is available, the issuance of the 48-page e-passports has been temporarily halted.

Speaking to some media outlets, immigration revealed that they have temporarily halted the issuing of e-passports, as their stock ran-out.

Highlighting that individuals may apply for e-passports from 15 April 2024, immigration noted that they are working to resolve this issue, as soon as possible.

There have been issues such as being unable to access the IMUGA portal and the website, as well as some services being disrupted, ahead of the holidays.

As the last 10 days of Ramadan are government holidays, several individuals are traveling out of the country as well as to outlying islands.

This comes at a time several have also applied to renew their passports as well.
