The harbor development project initiated in Nilandhoo island of Faafu atoll is currently progressing well.
This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Sunday.
As such, taking to social media platform ‘X’ to provide the latest updates of the Nilandhoo harbor development project to the public, MTCC revealed that they recently delivered the first shipment of concrete blocks required for the quay wall construction of the project.
Currently ongoing is the harbor basin dredging operation, according to the company.
MTCC revealed that they mobilized the project site on 02 September 2023.
With the implementation of the project, Nilandhoo will have a more spacious and modern harbor which is expected to address the concerns facing the island community.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC will be conducting harbor basin dredging operations in an area measuring 55,141 cubic meters as well as channel dredging operations in an area measuring 6,933 cubic meters.
The contract also entails the construction of a quay wall measuring 237 meters, a 261-meter breakwater, a revetment measuring 75 meters, a sand-filled outer revetment measuring 194 meters as well as a 188-meter inner sand-filled revetment.
Further, MTCC will also be constructing mooring buoys, a ramp measuring 11 meters by 11 meters, a jetty measuring 100 meters by two meters and a concrete bridge measuring 18 meters by two meters.
The company was contracted to install a pavement measuring 1,151 square meters, curbstone and harbor lights as well.
The former administration’s Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC.
The Nilandhoo harbor development project is valued at MVR 61.75 million.
