Council members of Dhuvaafaru island in Raa atoll have urged the administration to resume the halted development projects on the island.

This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Sunday.

Speaking at the meeting, the councilors stressed the need to resolve the housing difficulties and resume halted development projects initiated in the island.

Further, discussions were held regarding concerns of registration of Dhuvaafaru households.

Other topics touched upon at the meeting include the need for harbor expansion, the establishment of better healthcare services and providing a solution to land erosion issues facing the island community.

Further, the councilors shed light on other needs of the island community including sports infrastructure development namely for volleyball and handball.

Other priorities linked to the island’s progress were also shared with the president.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to align development efforts with the recommendations of both the council and the local community, the president pledged to provide a gynecologist and a paediatrician for the island.

The president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
