Council members of Hirimaradhoo island of Haa Dhaal atoll have sought from the government to initiate a harbor expansion project in the island.

This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Monday.

The meeting saw discussions revolving around key development concerns of the island community, including the importance of a harbor expansion initiative, addressing space constraints at the council office as well as budgetary constraints.

In addition to this, councilors noted that the Muizzu administration has granted them capability to decentralize, adding that they remain confident in the government's initiatives.

The island’s councilors assured the president that they would fully support the government’s development vision.

President Muizzu announced that the construction of the Hirimaradhoo Council Office would be launched as a special project, within 20 days.

The president expressed commitment to address concerns raised by the council and seek ways to tackle the issues.
