Council members of Utheem island in Haa Alif atoll have urged the government to upkeep the historical and heritage sites of the island, properly.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Sunday.
The meeting saw discussions revolving around key concerns facing the island community including the renovation of the island’s mosque and the challenges surfacing for the community due to the damaged harbor.
Discussions also touched upon issues linked to coastal erosion, the need for a futsal ground for the youth community, the need to implement a housing project, provide adequate office space for the council, sufficient school facilities, a state house as well as the establishment of ATM services.
The councilors also pushed the administration to swiftly expedite ongoing development projects.
The island’s WDC members requested the government to facilitate training opportunities for them.
Listening to these concerns, the president expressed commitment to resolve the issues raised at the meeting through consultation with relevant authorities.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers in attendance provided updates on the initiatives planned for the island.
