Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has met the United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

The meeting saw FM Zameer and the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State engaging in discussions regarding the growing partnership between the Maldives and U.S.

Discussions also revolved around a wide range of issues including commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, economic prosperity, defense as well as broader security cooperation. 

They also touched upon efforts to increase people-to-people ties with simplified visa procedures and minimum hurdles.

Avenues for collaboration on tourism, climate change and other areas of mutual interest in the multilateral for a were explored at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, FM Zameer expressed gratitude to the American government for their eagerness to engage with the Maldives.

As such, he noted that several high-level engagements have been held between the two governments since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took oath as the president of Maldives, on 17 November 2023.

The meeting was joined by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, State Minister Sheryna Abdul Samad, Bilateral Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed, Senior Undersecretary Hassan Hussain Shihab and Desk Officer Saifulla Waleed.
