First Lady Sajida Mohamed has stressed on the importance of paving the path for equal opportunities for women in the social, political, and economic sectors.

She said this in a video message delivered at the closing ceremony of the 9th 'International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly'.

The 9th 'International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly' proceeded from February 8 – 9 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

In her message, the Maldivian FL shed light on the commitment of the Maldivian government to promote and prioritize women and girls in the field of science.

Highlighting that the government of Maldives passionately advocates to increase the number of women engaging in the information technology and digitalization sectors, FL Sajidha shed light on the importance of providing women equal opportunities in the social, political, and economic sectors without gender-based discrimination.

In accordance with the United Nations General Assembly Resolution, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed across the globe every year on February 11.

The day aims to shed the spotlight on the accomplishments of female scientists.

Further, it carries the purpose of advocating for gender equality.
