The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has wrapped up the Juvenile Justice Unit (Halfway House) construction project in Hoarafushi island of Haa Alif atoll.
This was revealed via a post on social media platform ‘X’ on Thursday.
Providing the latest updates of the Hoarafushi Juvenile Justice Unit (Halfway House) construction project to the public, MTCC revealed that they have successfully completed the project.
By May 2023, the company had reached 50 percent progress and by January 2024, MTCC had completed the project.
The company in January 2023 completed the foundation beam and column work.
The foundation of the building was laid on 29 June 2022 by former Minister of Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla.
Speaking at the groundbreaking function, the previous government’s minister shed light on the importance of a Juvenile Justice Unit in reintegrating juveniles who were exposed to crime, back into society and rebuild their lives.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC was contracted to conduct ground work, concrete work, masonry and plastering, roofing and ceiling, doors and windows, finishing including tiling, painting and decorations as well as mechanical work, electrical and plumbing work.
The project also entailed the installation of a firefighting system.
The Hoarafushi Juvenile Justice Unit construction project was valued at MVR 6.15 million.
The Hoarafushi Juvenile Justice Unit was constructed as a halfway house to provide rehabilitation and treatment for adolescents incarcerated for several criminal actions. The facility was built on a 10,000-square-foot block of land.
