The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that the man who stabbed his mother inside an apartment in Hulhumalé on Monday, suffers from mental illness.
The police institution revealed that they received reports of a man stabbing a woman inside a flat in Hulhumalé Phase I at around 06:50pm on Monday.
The 51-year-old woman is being treated for critical injuries, at Hulhumalé Hospital.
Police findings so far indicate that the man stabbed his mother, throughout a family dispute.
MPS has revealed that the man who stabbed his mother, is mentally ill and that efforts are underway to conduct a doctor’s consultation as soon as possible.
Further details of the man have not been disclosed by the authorities.
However, MPS has confirmed that further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
