Russia continues to top the Maldives tourist arrival markets.
This was revealed by the Ministry of Tourism in its latest daily statistics, publicized on Wednesday.
Although India topped the tourist markets for Maldives halfway through the year, it was replaced by Russia halfway throughout the year.
2022 ended with the neighboring country as the top source market for Maldives tourism.
Russia was the frontrunner among the tourism markets with the highest number of tourist arrivals into the first few months of the year as well.
Russia currently contributes 11.3 percent of the market share with 197,364 arrivals recorded from the country as of December 12.
India has climbed to the second spot contributing 11.1 percent of the market share, with 193,693 arrivals.
China has toppled to third with 180,524 arrivals, which makes up 10.3 percent of the arrivals.
Other top tourist markets so far in 2023 are United Kingdom contributing 8.2 percent with 143,988 arrivals, Germany contributing 7.3 percent with 127,618 arrivals, Italy contributing 5.9 percent with 104,271 arrivals, United States contributing 3.9 percent with 69,190 arrivals, France contributing 2.6 percent with 45,746 arrivals, Spain contributing 2.2 percent with 38,562 arrivals and Switzerland contributing two percent with 34,855 arrivals.
Statistics go on to reveal that since the new year began, a total of 1,752,706 tourists have touched down in the archipelago nation.
Between December 1 – 12 Maldives recorded 68,859 tourist arrivals.
Maldives is expected to record 1.9 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
