Four members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are running for the vacant seats of the Male' City Council.
This was disclosed by the party on Saturday.
Noting that only one member per vacant seat has shown interest in running in the by-election of Male' City Council, the party announced that they have chosen to hand out party tickets for the by-election without holding a primary.
MDP has disclosed the party's candidates for the upcoming election.
MDP's candidates for the by-election of Male' City Council are;
- Former Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim, for the post of Male' City Mayor
- Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed, for the vacant seat of Central Henveiru
- Hawaa Nihla, for the vacant seat of South Henveiru
- Ahmed Imran, for the vacant seat of South Maafannu
The by-election for the vacant post of Malé City mayor as well as members of the city council, is slated for 13 January 2024.
The vote to elect a new mayor to the capital city must be held before January 17 next year.
The application process for membership will be opened on December 13 this year.
The official results of the by-election will be announced on January 15, 2023.
