Supporters of the joint opposition alliance against the current government has organized a demonstration this evening on occasion of Maldives’ 52nd Independence Day.
They are to gather near the Jumhooree Party headquarters and the office of the Maldivian Democratic Party at 4:30 pm.
The demonstration, calling for more ‘independence’, will continue until 8:30 pm.
Opposition supporters have been holding serial rallies for the past week over the arrest and prosecution of several key figures, including Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim and MP Faris Maumoon.
