Discussions have been held on enhancing engagement between the parliaments of Maldives and Türkiye.

The discussions were during a courtesy call paid on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu by Chairman and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye Professor Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at the Parliament Building in Ankara, as part of the Maldivian leader’s official trip to the country.

Turkey’s Speaker of the Grand National Assembly extended felicitations to the Maldivian leader on the commencement of his presidential term.

Discussions at the meeting revolved around the longstanding bilateral relations between Maldives and Türkiye.

They further expressed mutual interest to work closely to discuss matters of mutual interest, especially on enhancing engagement between the two parliaments and further promote the excellent relations between the two countries.

The cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, high technology and tourism was also discussed.

Further, the speaker applauded the stance of Maldives on the Israeli aggression against the people of Palestine and praised the island nation for supporting an immediate ceasefire at the United Nations (UN).

President Muizzu and the speaker expressed mutual hope that the partnership between the two countries would reach greater heights under the new administration.

The Maldivian leader headed to Turkey with his spouse, Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials on November 26 and concluded the trip on November 29.
