President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the citizens to embrace firm resolve to safeguard national honor and sovereignty.

The Maldivian leader made this appeal in a written address issued on Friday on the occasion of Victory Day.

In his address, the president shed light on the need for a firm resolve to uphold and protect the nation’s honor and sovereignty.

Shedding light on the significance of the occasion of Victory Day, the president paid tribute to the brave heroes who protected the sovereignty and independence of the island nation against armed foreign troops.

Going on to note the vital importance of prioritizing national interests above individual interests, President Solih stressed that it was necessary to abstain from any actions that could possibly compromise the independence and sovereignty of the country.

Further, he called on the citizens to instill the spirit for individual efforts to protect the nation’s independence and sovereignty, in growing young minds as well.

Highlighting that fostering a sense of national pride in the younger generation and encouraging them to prioritize national interests, are key aspects of commemorating Victory Day, President Solih stated that one of the central reasons for commemorating Victory Day was to generate awareness about the necessity of intensive efforts by both the government and its people, aimed towards the shared goal of preserving the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives.

President Solih went on to credit the victory to the joint efforts of the then-government and the Maldivian people for effectively foiling the brutal assault on 3 November 1988.

The president said that the victory mirrored the strong spirit of unity and sacrifice the citizens have for their country.

Shedding light on the ongoing challenges faced by the Muslim communities across the globe, President Solih drew specific attention to the plight of Palestinians, who have been living under Zionist occupation for more than seven decades.

The Maldivian leader expressed deep concern over the inhumane conditions that are currently being endured by Palestinians.

President Solih stated that there are no citizens more deprived of justice than Palestinian citizens, in such an era where advocacy for democracy and human rights is echoed throughout the entire globe.
