Ga. Villingili harbor development project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has disclosed that the third phase of the Harbor Development Project of Villingili island of Gaafu Alif Atoll is well underway.

MTCC states that the new harbor basin dredging work has currently reached 75 percent completion.

The company also disclosed that quay wall block installation work has reached 89 percent completion.

MTCC mobilized the project on 03 January 2023.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC will be doing dredging and excavation operations of a 59,536.80 cubic meters harbor basin.

The company will also be doing construction work of a 275 meters breakwater, 613 meters revetment, 105 meters groyne and a 685 meters quay wall.

The value of the project is MVR 114.33 million.

MTCC in April 2020, completed the phase two of Villingili harbor development project.

Under the Project, MTCC dredged 7,985 cubic meters, constructed a breakwater measuring 346 meters and a bridge measuring 30 meters.

Further, the project also included the installation of harbor beacons and was valued at MVR 10.6 million.

Dubbed as the leading marine and land transport provider in the country, MTCC has undertaken several harbor development projects across various islands over the years.

CEO of the company, Adam Azim has stated that the company has completed a total of 130 projects within the last three years.

Azim went on to say that the company faced numerous challenges in achieving this, specially during the Covid-19 pandemic. He emphasized on the hard work of the company staff to carry on with their projects even with all the hurdles, stating that this is the reason why they were able to finish the projects as scheduled.

Azim also stated that the company's capacity has seen a drastic change since the current administration took office. As such, he noted that when President Solih took office, and he was given the position of the Managing Director of MTCC, the company had the capacity of taking on 20 to 25 projects at the same time.

Azim stated that the company now, have the capacity to take up-to 100 different projects at the same time, and still complete them all within the given time frame.
