The second phase of the Olhamahthaa Eco Park in Hoadedhdhoo Island of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll has been completed.

The Olhamahthaa Eco Park development project was carried out by Hoadedhdhoo Sports, with the support of Bank of Maldives (BML)'s community fund initiative.

This project included upgrading and extension works, and focused on mitigating the impact of tidal wave destruction which occurs annually.

As part of the project trees were planted near the shoreline and the forest walkway was cleaned.

Additionally, a nursery for mangrove plants was established under the project.

The project also saw the installation of benches and solar lights.

Furthermore, a hut was also built as part of the project.

Commenting on the project, Mahdhoon Adam from Hoadedhdhoo Sports stated that the project aims to provide a designated area for family gatherings.

He noted that the project aims to increase eco-tourism opportunities, and raise awareness among locals about the forest and its surrounding environment.

The Community Fund is a program initiated by BML to empower NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. So far, the Bank has provided financial assistance for 90 projects across the country through this Fund.
