A large stash of narcotics held in police custody and confiscated during multiple different operations, have been destroyed.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the destroyed narcotics had a street value of more than MVR 368 million.
Destroyed in Dhoonidhoo on Wednesday were over 232 kilograms of illegal drugs seized by police during multiple operations since 2018 to date.
According to the police institution, destroyed were 4,405 pieces of evidence involved in 659 incidents of 1,509 cases.
These include 1,495.97 grams of MDM, 37,953.49 grams of meth, 90,860.86 grams of morphine, 30,266.87 grams of cannabinol, 17,830.90 grams of cocaine, 0.1142 grams of LSD and other drugs weighing approximately 54,145.42 grams. The other narcotics included illicit medicines and stimulants.
As per the latest changes brought to the regulations under which drugs are disposed, drugs seized by the police in different cases are disposed of at the earliest after keeping it at the level that is legally mandated for investigation.
The institution revealed that the drugs were destroyed under the supervision of the relevant police team and under the set legal procedure for it.
