Three major road development projects have been contracted to Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC).
The government contracted the three projects to RDC, during separate ceremonies held at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Monday.
Contracted to RDC on Monday were a project for the design and building of major roads in phase one of Naifaru island of Lhaviyani atoll, the project to design and build major roads in Maavah island of Laamu atoll and to design and build the main road or the “Bodu Magu” of Isdhoo – Kalaidhoo in Laamu atoll.
Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq signed the agreements on behalf of the government and General Manager Ahmed Shihad signed them on behalf of RDC.
The biggest expense among these three projects has been expected for the Isdhoo – Kalaidhoo road project, which will be carried out on a design and build basis. RDC has been entrusted with completing the task of tarring the main road within a period of 730 days.
More than MVR 138 million will be spent on the project.
The road which will be tarred under the project stretches up to 4.39 kilometers.
The scope of the project also includes the installation of a water drainage system alongside streetlights.
RDC has been contracted to complete the road development project in Maavah within 540 days. The project is valued at more than MVR 51 million. 1.855 kilometers of road will be tarred under this project, which will also see the installation of a water drainage system and streetlights.
Further, RDC has been entrusted to complete the road development project in Naifaru, valued at over MVR 95 million, within 720 days.
Under the scope of the project, all of the roads in Naifaru will be designed and under the first phase, 2.66 kilometers of road will be tarred. The scope of the project also includes the installation of a water drainage system as well as streetlights.
