The regions where mass congregations for Eid-Al-Adha prayers are to be held in the Greater Malé Region this year, will be closed off for traffic.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs revealed that the four regions where mass congregations for the Eid-Al-Adha prayer will be held in the GMR, will be closed off for vehicles.
The ministry has also allocated areas where parking will be prohibited, and an area where individuals attending the mass congregations for the Eid prayer, will be allowed to park their vehicles.
The regions publicized by the Islamic ministry, will be closed off to vehicles from 6am to 8:30am on Eid-Al-Adha.
Mass congregations for Eid-Al-Adha prayer will be held this year across four regions including the Maafannu Stadium in Malé City, Villimalé Football Stadium, Hulhumalé Synthetic Track and the Cricket Stadium in Hulhumalé Phase II.
Further, Eid prayers will be held across 17 mosques in Malé City, one mosque in Villimalé; Masjid Salam, two mosques in Hulhulé, three mosques in Hulhumalé Phase I and two mosques in Hulhumalé Phase II.
The ministry has allocated these regions for the annual mass congregation for Eid-Al-Adha this year, and preparations are currently underway.
Eid-Al-Adha falls on June 28 this year.
The government began holding mass congregations at stadiums from 2012. Eid prayers are performed in congregation twice a year during Eid-Al-Adha and the Eid-Al-Fitr, the latter marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan which is celebrated by Muslim communities globally.
Performing the Eid prayer in congregation is a holy practice among the Muslim communities worldwide.
