Malé City Council has declared that all public roads in the Greater Malé Region (GMR) as vehicle-free zones on the evening of this year's Eid al-Adha as part of the celebrations.

While vehicle driving has been banned on the roads of GMR on the evening of Eid al-Adha, the ban on vehicle driving in the Malé area roads is from 4pm to 6pm on Eid day.

The City Council said on Wednesday that special stickers for vehicles traveling in emergency situations during the no-driving hours will be issued by the council's Public Services Section on June 6, from 08:30am to 10:30am in the morning and from 2pm to 3:45pm in the afternoon.

Along with this, it has been publicly announced that driving motorized and battery-powered vehicles from 4pm to 6pm on Eid day is prohibited, and the authority has stated that legal action will be taken against those who violate this announcement.

The Day of Hajj falls on June 5. The Eid holidays begin on Friday, June 6.

The three islands where the government has decided to celebrate this year's Eid al-Adha at the national level are Gan island of Laamu atoll, Guraidhoo island of Kaafu atoll, and Kelaa island of Haa Alif atoll.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to mark religious occasions, including Eid, with grand and inclusive celebrations.
