Some changes have been made in the ferry service provided by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Eid-Al-Fitr.
MTCC revealed that on the day of Eid-Al-Fitr, the ferry service to and from Malé and Villimalé will be halted from 7am to 8:15am for the Fitr Eid prayer.
In addition to this, the timings of the ferry services to Thilafushi island have also been changed. As such, MTCC revealed that the first ferry from Malé to Thilafushi will be at 8:30am and the first ferry from Thilafushi to Malé has been scheduled for 9:00am
Further, the Hulhumalé premium ferry service will also be halted from 7am to 8:30am for Eid prayers.
According to the Hijri Calendar, Thursday is the last day of Ramadan, making Friday Eid Al-Fitr.
This has been backed by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as well. However, the International Astronomical Centre (IAC) has stated that Eid Al-Fitr will likely fall on Saturday, April 22.
The official ceremony to confirm the moon sighting to mark the beginning of the month of Shawwal is scheduled for 8:45pm on Thursday.
The ceremony will be aired live on television as well as radio and streamed on the ministry’s social media platform Facebook page. All islands across the Maldives will be observing the moon sighting for the beginning of Shawwal.
Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month during which Muslims observe fasting from sunrise to sunset.
