Maldives has declared Wednesday as the 30th day of the month of Shaban 1444

March 23, Thursday, has been declared the first day of Ramadan 1444.

This was announced by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs on Tuesday, as the moon sighting for the approaching fasting month was not observed that day.

The moon sighting was not observed across the Maldives as well as many Islamic countries across the globe after sundown, on Tuesday.

With this and as any official information regarding the moon sighting has not been confirmed for the first day of the fasting month for now, the Maldives has declared Wednesday as the 30th day of the month of Shaban 1444.

This makes Thursday, March 23 the first day of Ramadan this year.

The announcement was made following a special ceremony held for the moon sighting at the Islamic Centre.

The Islamic Minister has advised the public to pay special heed to religious practices and prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

He also prayed for the fasting month to pave blessing for the entire Muslim ummah this year.

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has also declared Thursday as the first day of Ramadan 1444.
