The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)'s Regional Director Sanjay Mathur has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
During the meeting, the Regional Director thanked State Minister Khaleel for the recent formalization of the opening of an office of UNOPS in the Maldives, and the host country agreement signed between UNOPS and Maldives to this effect.
Additionally, the Regional Director briefed the State Minister on the ongoing projects and the areas for future collaboration.
State Minister Khaleel acknowledged the ongoing work by UNOPS in the Maldives, especially the infrastructure support to enhance water security and climate resiliency across the country, and the close collaboration of UNOPS and the Government of Maldives to map areas of intervention in the critical areas of health, waste, energy, marine resources, and climate change.
State Minister expressed hope that the presence of a UNOPS mission in the Maldives would be instrumental and a major steppingstone in the implementation of the much-needed development projects in the country.
