Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has disclosed that the Solid Waste Storage Shed and Access Ramp project of Kunburudhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu atoll is well underway.

MTCC disclosed that the project has seen overall 50 percent progress.

The company notes that storage shed roofing works are currently ongoing.

Under the project, MTCC will conduct site clearing and concrete works, screed and block works, roof structure, perimeter drain and access ramp.

The company conducted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) before commencing physical works on the project.

MTCC notes that once the facility is constructed, it will help the island manage its waste more conveniently. MTCC has also stated that waste transfer stations play an important role in a community’s total waste management system. As such, the company notes that these serve as the link between a community’s solid waste collection program and a final waste disposal facility.

The Solid Waste Storage Shed and Access Ramp project of Kunburudhoo Island is valued at MVR 7.67 million.
