Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has expressed confidence that the relationship and cooperation that exist between Maldives and Greece will be strengthened during the new ambasador’s tenure.

Dimitrios Loannou, the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Maldives presented his Letter of Credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to Maldives on Sunday.

Following this, he called on FM Shahid as well as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel.

During his meeting with the State Minister, Ambasasdor Loannou engaged in productive discussions regarding shared priorities including climate change and strengthening bilateral ties.

Welcoming the new Ambassador of Greece to the Maldives, FM Shahid congratulated him on presenting credentials.

The meeting saw the new ambassador of Greece expressing keen interest to work together with the Maldivian government to further solidify the relations enjoyed between both countries in the bilateral and multilateral fora.

The meeting was joined by Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Bilateral Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary Economic Cooperation Dr. Hussain Niyaz, Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed and Chief General Service Officer Lujaina Thasneema.

Ambassador Loannou was among the ambassadors and high commissioners from eight countries who presented their Letters of Credence to President Solih on Sunday.

The ceremony saw Letters of Credence presented from the newly appointed Ambassador of Mongolia Ganbold Dambajav, Ambassador of France Jean-François Pactet, Ambassador of the Russian Federation Levan Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia Siniša Pavić, Ambassador of Hellenic Republic Dimitrios Loannu, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia Mateja Vodeb Ghosh, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia Gabriel P. Sinimbo and High Commissioner of the Republic of Canada Eric Walsh.

After the credential’s ceremony, the Maldivian leader sat down with the ambassadors and high commissioners for discussions.
