Drugs have been seized from a Brazilian woman who arrived in the Maldives from Doha, Qatar.

Maldives Customs Service had seized drugs weighing 2.6 kilograms from the Brazilian woman who flew into the country from Doha.

She was not allowed entry into the Maldives and was consecutively deported.

The 23-year-old woman who arrived at the Velana International Airport (VIA) on February 6, was searched upon suspicious behavior.

Customs officers found drugs stuffed inside her luggage, upon searching.

The suspected drugs had tested positive for cocaine in the initial analysis.

The drugs confiscated from the Brazilian woman are estimated to carry a street value of MVR 6.5 million.

Customs revealed that the woman was deported after consultations with the enforcement authorities, in accordance with the rules for “dealing with foreigners flying into the Maldives, in case they are suspected of smuggling drugs into the country”.

The authority has since handed over the confiscated narcotics to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
