Omar Abdul Razzak has presented his credentials as the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Maldives to the European Union.

Ambassador Omar presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday.

The ceremony was held at the Headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels.

Following the credential ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid congratulated Ambassador Omar and expressed confidence that the existing bilateral and multilateral ties between Maldives and EU will be further strengthened during his ambassadorial tenure.

Meeting with the President of the European Commission after the credential ceremony, the Maldivian ambassador conveyed personal greetings and best wishes from the president of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Shedding light on the close ties between the Maldives and EU, Ambassador Omar expressed commitment to continue fostering the excellent bilateral relations and close cooperation Maldives has with the EU.

In her remarks, President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the Maldivian ambassador for his appointment.

She went on to reaffirm the “positive” and “growing” momentum in the relations between Maldives and EU.

This comes not long after Ambassador Omar presented credentials as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Maldives to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg earlier this month.
