Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim and New Zealand’s Ambassador to the Maldives, Dr. Jonathan Edward Austin have discussed on ways to strengthen the existing ties between both countries.
The Ambassador, who is on an official visit to the Maldives, called on Minister Asim on Wednesday morning, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry informed that the Minister had noted the close bilateral ties between both countries during the meeting, with both parties discussing on ‘ways of further strengthening the existing ties between the two countries, including in areas on climate change’.

Minister Asim was accompanied by Bilateral Secretary at the Ministry Ahmed Khaleel, Assistant Director Rishfa Rasheed while Ambassador Austin was accompanied by Gabrielle Chin, Policy Advisor of the Embassy of New Zealand.
The Ambassador was appointed as the representative to the Maldives in April 2016, and had expressed his desire ‘towards further cooperation and assistance in all efforts towards the mutual benefit of both nations’.
