Dubai-based airline, Flydubai has decided to delay the commencement of flights to the south of Maldives.
In an earlier announcement in October 2022, travel agency Inner Maldives Holidays revealed that Flydubai continues to grow its operations to Maldives with the launching of a new daily service to Gan International Airport, in southernmost Addu City.
Flights were to be launched from Dubai, UAE from 4 February 2023 onwards.
However, the commencement of flights has been pushed back to June 24.
With this change, bookings have also been opened for ticket purchase.
Some passengers had already bought tickets after the airline began selling tickets following the decision to commence flights in February. According to the airline, these passengers will be permitted to change their travel dates hassle-free and free of charge.
Further, passengers who have booked tickets between February and June 24 and are unable to travel on their booked dates will be entitled to receive free tickets to Dubai from Velana International Airport (VIA).
The airline also noted that these passengers will also get two days of stay and domestic flights free of cost.
The carrier began its operations to Maldives back in 2013 with the launching of direct flights to Velana International Airport (VIA) in the capital, Malé City.
The airline will increase its flight frequency to the market to 28 flights a week, with the launching of the new daily service to the south in 2023.
Flydubai is the first carrier from the UAE to operate flights to the airport in the south of Maldives.
Flydubai's commencement of flights to Addu will increase the total number of destinations they fly to, to 185.
The national carrier Maldivian, will make arrangements for tourists who wish to travel to Huvadhoo Atoll to reach Kooddoo Airport, as well.
Flydubai is the first-ever UAE airline to commence flights to the south of Maldives.
