President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the National Disability Registry (NDR) is an essential component of the administration’s efforts to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities.

He made the statement while addressing a function in Alifushi Island of Raa Atoll to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022 on Thursday.

Addressing the function, President Solih underlined his efforts to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities and mobilise support for their dignity, rights, and well-being. The President emphasized on the importance of the NDR, stating that the data collected through the registry would make it easier for the administration to meet the specific needs and requirements of disabled people.

President Solih added that the NDR would also aid in providing the disability allowance. He announced that the administration was reviewing the allowance and would soon reveal the details.

Highlighting the many skills and talents of persons with disabilities, President Solih stated that the items showcased at the Riveli Exhibition are a testament to this fact. The President also spoke about marking an occasion dedicated to persons with disabilities and ensuring their every right.

At the function, President Solih presented the Rivehi Thari Awards to the winners of the Riveli Exhibition. The awards for 2022 were given to eight people across four categories.

The theme of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in 2022 is "Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world."
