Maldives Customs Service has seized 459 grams of drugs that were being smuggled into the Maldives via courier.
A press release issued by the authority on Monday revealed that the drugs were seized on November 10.
As such, they seized the drugs from a parcel shipped from the U.S., after they found suspicious materials inside the parcel.
In the first phase of investigations, customs officials found that the suspected narcotics had tested positive to Cannabis – herbal.
The drugs weighing 459g, carry a street value of MVR 367,000.
According to customs, this is the fifth time they have cracked down on a drug smuggling case so far this year.
As such, a total of 19.44 kilograms of Cannabis – herbal have been seized so far this year.
Customs have since handed the drugs over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for further probes.
This comes at a time the police institution has been conducting several operations to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in the Maldives.
