The Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Service has revealed that 92 cases of violence against children were reported to them in September alone.
The ministry recently publicized statistics for the month of September, revealing that the authority received and attended to a total of 219 cases.
These include cases of violence against children, domestic violence, gender-based violence, family issues, care and support issues, behavioral problems, child rights violations, self-harming and suicidal behavior, social support and well-being and cases of children in conflict with the law.
Out of the 92 cases of violence against children, a majority involved sexual abuse, negligence, and physical abuse. 19 cases of sexual abuse, 19 cases of negligence and 19 cases of physical abuse to children were reported in September.
The remaining cases of violence against children included 18 cases of emotional and mental abuse, 10 cases of children witnessing domestic violence, three cases of bullying, two cases of harassment and two cases of blackmail.
Further, of the 36 cases linked to gender-based violence and domestic violence reported in September, 19 were of emotional and verbal abuse, 10 were of physical violence and abuse, two were of controlling behavior, two were of sexual abuse and violence, two were rape cases and one was a victim of intimidation.
35 girls and one boy were victims of gender-based and domestic violence that month.
In addition to this, 30 cases were to do with family issues, of which 16 related to access to the child, nine victims were identified to have parenting issues and five were issues related to custody and rights to access.
17 boys and 13 girls were victims of family issues.
The ministry also received 19 cases of self-harm and suicidal behavior during September. These included 10 victims of self-harm, four victims who had suicidal behavior as well as five victims with suicidal thoughts.
Throughout September, 18 cases of care and support for the elderly and persons with disabilities were also reported. These included 13 cases of care and support for persons with disabilities and five cases of care and support for the elderly.
The ministry also reported 17 cases of behavioral problems including three children who ran away from home and one who threw temper tantrums. Five children who refused to attend school, three kids with disciplinary issues, one aggressive and antisocial child and four others were also included among these.
Further, the ministry also received five cases of child rights violations where four involved children being stripped of their right to education and one who was refused access to their national ID card, passport, or birth certificate.
Also, one boy was reported to be in violation of the law.
Statistics go on to indicate that 186 children were under state care by the end of August.
Three children reintegrated with families and four were taken into state care. Two children were taken into foster care in this period with one who turned 18, reintegrated to the society with a job.
