Bank of Maldives (BML) has established an RO machine to provide safe drinking water for students and staff at Bodufolhudhoo School in Alif Alif atoll, under its Community Fund initiative.

The country’s national bank announced the successful completion of the establishment of the safe drinking water machine on Monday.

BML revealed that the aim of the project is to provide safe drinking water for students and staff of the school and to eliminate single use plastic bottles.

BML placed a commercial RO machine and a water dispenser within the school for students and staff to have easy access to water.

Musthafa Ahmed from the Revolutionary Bodufolhudhoo Generation which won the proposal for the project, revealed that it will benefit 186 students, teachers, staff and those visiting the school.

The Revolutionary Bodufolhudhoo Generation also donated reusable bottles for all students and staff, in turn pledging to reduce single use plastic and adopt to environmentally friendly measures as part of the project.

The organization is also to do routine checks and maintenance work on the machine, filters and water dispensers to ensure the project is a sustainable and successful one.

The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.

The ‘Aharenge Bank’ Community Fund is a programme aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to local communities through sustainable development projects. The offer is open for individuals, local NGOs, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), women’s development groups, tech community movements and youth empowerment groups. Government and business entities are not eligible for the program. The Fund supports projects in the thematic areas of education, environment, sports and community development.

A total of 20 similar projects will be funded during 2022, as in previous years.
