The new High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Maldives, Kuwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, remains committed to strengthen cooperation between Maldives and Ghana.
He made this commitment during a meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel on Monday.
The meeting was joined by Joint Secretary Fathimath Najwa and Senior Desk officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aminath Abdulla.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Minister Khaleel welcomed the new Ghana HC and congratulated him on presenting his Letter of Credence to the Maldivian president.
Khaleel went on to shed light on the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.
The pair also exchanged ideas to further enhance the bilateral ties and cooperation between Maldives and Ghana in areas of mutual interest.
The high commissioner in turn, assured that he remains committed to work with the government of Maldives in strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Following the credentials ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid extended warm congratulations to the new high commissioner and expressed confidence that the friendly relations between Maldives and Ghana will continue to expand and flourish during your tenure.
The new High Commissioner of Ghana to Maldives, proposed to seek tourism investment opportunities in the Maldives during a meeting held with President Ibrahim Mohamed, following the credentials ceremony on Monday.
The meeting with the president saw the president expressing hope to further enhance the 33-year-long stable diplomatic relations between the two countries, through increased bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Discussions were held on mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries, particularly in agriculture and tourism, with the high commissioner noting that Ghana could learn a lot from the tourism industry of Maldives.
With this, he proposed to look into investment opportunities from Maldivian enterprises to help Ghana's tourism sector.
Highlighting that 2022 marks the golden jubilee of Maldives tourism since it was incepted in 1972, President Solih assured support for the development of Ghana’s tourism sector.
The pair reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in the international fora to advance issues of mutual interest.
Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Ghana on 10 August 1989.
