Bank of Maldives has established a community library in Fiyoaree island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, under its Community Fund initiative.
The country’s national bank announced the successful completion of the establishment of a community library in Fiyoaree, on Tuesday.
BML revealed that the project was successfully implemented by a local NGO, Fiyoaree Association for Community Empowerment (FACE).
The project carries the aim to motivate island residents to engage in reading and spend quality time outdoors, with their loved ones.
The community library was established to be a part of the children’s park on the island.
Vice President of FACE Suruhan Mohamed revealed that the NGO remains hopeful that the space will not only be useful but will make a real difference to the community of Fiyoaree.
We have not had an outdoor space dedicated for families on the island. Our hope is that this space will not only be useful but will make a real difference to our community. Children coming to the park can now read outside and spend quality time with their families.”Suruhan Mohamed, Vice President of FACE.
The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.
The ‘Aharenge Bank’ Community Fund is a programme aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to local communities through sustainable development projects. The offer is open for individuals, local NGOs, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), women’s development groups, tech community movements and youth empowerment groups. Government and business entities are not eligible for the program. The Fund supports projects in the thematic areas of education, environment, sports and community development.
A total of 20 projects will be funded during 2022, similar to previous years.
